Last Day in Beijing. :(/:)?
August 13, 2011
So, here I am in my hostel room, sitting on my bed at 5 AM, listening to Chris Tomlin and…uh…not sleeping.
The hostel folks made Margie move out yesterday, and a mom and her young daughter moved in with me and Lynn.
Oh, how sad…..maybe it’s because we’re both missing Margie..that’s why Lynn & I are still awake. Hehe. I’d like to think that.
It was pretty cool yesterday, on the whole. Me, Lynn, Margie, and her friend Natalie (who’s a grad student from England) went to the silk market yesterday. After about 15 minutes, we all got separated from each other. I went to the bank, Lynn went to find shoes, Margie went to find clothes, and Natalie also went off.
I was in a bad mood after coming back from the bank; I brought $300 USD with me, but was only allowed to convert $100 because 1 was torn on the side, and the other had a small rip on top. Stupid Chinese banks.
Came back and Margie was gone. Started texting Lynn like a crazy madwoman about her whereabouts…but in the midst of all this chaos, I still ended up buying:
1) 2 luggage cases for 300 RMB
2) 2 gig mp3 player for 100 RMB (SUPER RIP-OFF)
3) 4 of those “flip flop” flower things… for 100 RMB (ANOTHER RIP OFF)
We all got back at different times, but Lynn and I met our nice mother & young daughter. We decided not to go to the Beijing Opera yesterday nights. (Initially, we had plans to do so…)
Then, there’s the subject of CHURCH tomorrow…
Uh, I think I’ll p.o.d.c.a.s.t instead.
We went to eat at Chef Kong’s restaurant for dinner & afterwards, I had my 2nd 1000 CC green tea drink. (UH.OH. Should not have had it at 8 PM)
BECAUSE…
It is now 5:24 AM and I CANNOT FALL ASLEEP.
Around 1/2 AM, RAIN started pouring down from the heavens and I thought I was going to die with all the lightning and thunder all around. Add that to being on the top bunk for the first time since getting to the hostel, and it’s a no bueno combinación.
I was sweating, holding my ears, and cowering under my blankets until around 3 AM. This experience was almost as bad as the one from sophomore year. With the huge thunderstorm at Bradford…I think this goes as #2 scariest thunderstorm. I listened to music, a podcast (1 hr 24 mins) and…now I’m just blogging.
KFC opens at 6 AM. I think I’ll start off my last day in Beijing with a BANG! and eat there…
At least I’ve got Chris Tomlin to keep me company for another 1/2 hour… hehe.
